<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>This dataset is the result of a cooperative agreement between the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation - Office of Transportation Inventory Management and the Local Planning Districts/Organizations of South Dakota. The data was collected using GPS technology. The data was differentially corrected and converted into ESRI's ArcInfo coverages using macros developed by GeoResearch Inc. (now Michael Baker & Assoc.). Throughout the years the county ArcInfo coverages have been converted to Personal Geodatabases and now have been combined into one dataset (NSTRI) as an SDE layer.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
This data is used to maintain an accurate and viable Non-State Trunk Road Inventory (NSTRI) roadway network. The road network is used to report required information in compliance with Federal Highway Administration directives.

Data is gathered in the field with GPS units in vehicles. Some attributes are added in the field and some attributes were only added in the office. Domains were created to make sense of the acronyms and abbreviations in the attributes. In the field, ArcGIS ArcView v9.x was used to collect the data. In the office, the data was cleaned up and managed using ArcGIS ArcINFO 9.x.
